Bahawalpur board was not initially formed this region was under the Multan board but then with the increase in students this board was separated from the Multan board and in the year 1977 by the government of Punjab it was named as independent board that is board of intermediate and secondary education. Its office in the year 1977 was with Multan board but with time in the year 1978 this office was shifted to Bahawalpur. Its first supplementary examination were conducted in the year 1978. In the year 1979 office of Bahawalpur board was shifted to daulat khana.

Main objective of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class examination that is by the board and providing students with certificates after that too. in 1993 under Education Department of Government it also got responsibility for conducting examinations for OT/CT/PTC and Arts and Crafts. It also conducts examination in classical languages too. Punjab education commission was established in the year 2005 it was formed to control and manage the examination that is for 5th and 8th class as these examination are not necessary but many students appear for practice.

These examination of 12th class by the board are conducted in the month of April and May. Before this registration occurs that is in the month of February these forms are posted to affiliated colleges and also posted to the online website that makes easy for students. After registration these students in the month of march are provided with roll number slips and date sheets. After that examination conducted in the month of April and May many students appeared and now they are excited for results those will be declared soon by the officials of the board on the official website of the board.
