Bahawalpur board was first the part of Multan board students used to study under that but then with the time as the population increased Bahawalpur board was separated and it was formed in the year 1977 under the orders of government of Punjab. In the year 1977 board office for Bahawalpur board was located in Multan but then with the time in the year 1978 board office was shifted to Bahwalpur and first supplementary examination those are by the Bahawalpur board were conducted in the year 1978. In the year 1979 board office was moved to dualat khana.

Main purpose of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class examination and many students appear in these examination those are from government or private schools. in 1993 under Education Department of Government it also got responsibility for conducting examinations for OT/CT/PTC and Arts and Crafts. Examination are also conducted in the classical languages. Punjab education commission was formed in the year 2005 that was with the purpose to control and monitor the examination those are conducted for 5th and 8th class by the board many students appear there for practice.

Matric consist of two parts those are part I that is 9th class and part II that is 10th class many students appear in these examination and these examination are conducted in the month of March and April. Before examination registration is occurred that is in the month of January these forms are posted to the affiliated colleges and they are also available online on the official website of the board. After registration students are provided with roll number slips and date sheets in the month of February and examination are conducted in the month of march and April.

After this many students appear as regular and other as private students in examination and now they are waiting for results that time is near when result will be declared on the official website of the board.
