In the region of bahawalpur education was controlled at first by the Multan board but then as tradition for education increased and students started focusing towards it strength for students started to increase. Then by the government of Punjab in 1977 Bahawalpur board was separated from Multan board and then in the year 1977 its office was located in Multan but then in 1978 its office was shifted to Bahawalpur and its first supplementary examination were conducted in the year 1978 many students appeared in them. In year 1979 office of Bahawalpur board was shifted to daulat khana.

In 1993 under Education Department of Government it also got responsibility for conducting examinations for OT/CT/PTC and Arts and Crafts it also conducts examination in oriental languages. Main objective of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class examination that is in many schools and colleges those are government and private and they are affiliated with the board. Punjab education commission was formed in the year 2005 that was with the main purpose to monitor and control the examination of 5th and 8th class conducted under the board these examination are not necessary but students appear for practice.

Many students appear in matric that is 10th class examination those are conducted in the month of March and April many students appear as regular and other as private students. Before these examination registration occurs that is in the month of January and these registration forms are provided online or posted to the affiliated colleges with the board. After registration these students are provided with roll number slips and date sheets in the month of February that is after a month. After that examination occurs in March and April and students wait for results to be announced that time is very near now.
