In the year 1977 Bahawalpur board was separated by the government of Punjab from the Multan board but this is not only this but it is also named as independent board of intermediate and secondary education. In the year 1977 board office of Bahawalpur board was with Multan board but then in the year 1978 this board was shifted to Bahwalpur. This separation was done due to increasing population and number of students. In the year 1979 this board office was shifted to the daulat khana. There are many government and other private schools and colleges those are affiliated with the board and they are running under its rules and regulation.

Main objective of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class examination and also providing students with certificates after that. in 1993 under Education Department of Government it also got responsibility for conducting examinations for OT/CT/PTC and Arts and Crafts. It also conducts examination in classical languages. Punjab education commission was established in the year 2005 that was with the purpose to conducts and control the examination for 5th and 8th class and that is not compulsory but for students and their practice.

Many students appear in 11th class examination those are conducted by the board in the month of April and May and many students appear as regular and other as private students. Board conducted its first supplementary examination in the year 1978. At first board goes for registration that is in the month of February and these forms are provided online and also posted to the affiliated colleges that is for making process easy. After registration students are provided with roll number slips and date sheet in the month of February or March and examination are conducted in the month of April and May now these all students are waiting for results that time is near for results to be announced by the board and students must be excited.
